XT6 parts on an '86 wagon DR?

Featured Replies

I just found an XT6 at a local JY. I have read that the hubs can be used on an EA82, what else should I get from the XT to put on my soon to be lifted stock 86 wagon.

There's a writeup about the 5-lug swap in the Ultimate Subaru Repair Manual (see the main forum index page)... give that a read and it should give you a good start.

Also useful would be searching for "suspension swap" and looking for XT6 or 5-lug stuff. The search doesn't like terms with 3 or fewer letters, unfortunately. Good luck.

In the rear: hubs, backing plates and rotors. Backing plates/rotors need to be from an AWD model.

In the front: best to take everything (knuckles. lower control arms, caliper and rotors) to include the control arm bolts.

Hi. I bought an XT6 awd a year or two ago, & robbed a lot of stuff off of it. I did the 5 lug conversion on my 88 GL with the rear hubs, backing plates, & started on the front conversion with those parts. In the end, I only used the fr. lower control arms from the XT6. I switched to Legacy struts, hubs & brakes, much more availability for them. But you'ed have to convert to rear hand brake with Leg. stuff, (200 or 240 SX Nissan r. calipers & cables) makes for a real clean conversion. I'm runnin' both XT sway bars.(Heaver). With a little redrilling I used the O/S mirrors. If you wanted to go to the work, you could use the extending steering column. If your gonna' do the 5 lug thing, you might want to snag the spare tire. The radiator seems to be the same as my EA82T, thicker than stock EA82. If it's a 5 spd, the clutch & flywhl. are resaleable, & prob, the wiper mech. There's prob. other things worth saving, but that's all I can think of tire now. Luck with your project, S.
