Trans output shaft came out! Is there hope?

Featured Replies

Help! I was removing the CV axle in my 95 Legacy AT FWD w/ 96k, and when I was taking off the ball joint I yanked and the output shaft came out from the tranny! It's connected to the cv axle because I meant to take out the spring pin but hadn't gotten to that step yet. :slobber: It has a C-clip on the splines that go into the front diff.

How do I get the shaft back in? Is there hope?

yep, you're golden. don't do anything but pop it back in place. if the circlip is still on the end of the stub you're golden, if not you'll need to fish it out first. but they almost always stay with the stub so just pop it back in. there is a seal there though so carefully pop it in without damaging the seal.

Awesome! You are the man! I was having all sorts of nightmares like tranny rebuilds, etc.

Thanks for getting back to me so quick!

The circlip is a little loose on the shaft, would you replace it?

no, the circlips are typically really "loose" so to speak and seem to dangle off the end. fairly certain that's normal, i've always left them like that no problem.

Hey thanks for your help! Gotta find my rubber mallet here somewhere to get that thing in there...
