Shifter stiff

Took the impreza for a short test drive after doing the heads. It is AT and the shifter is very stiff.

 

Haven't got it back up on jackstands yet to look. Is there some linkage points that need grease on these- that might loosen it up?

Check the mechanism inside the car first. It's a good place for people to spill sodas and coffee and it runs right down into the shifter and gums it up. Clean it up real well and grease it with some silicone or lithium grease, if it doesn't help replace the shift cable.
