New tires for 93 Loyale - Help with size

Featured Replies

I'm in need of some new rubber on my 93 Loyale wagon. Current (stock) is 165-70-13.

I've seen a few threads talking about running 185-70-13 as well as 185-80-13 on this car. Will those tires sizes fit on the stock rims?

Should I consider going with a larger tire? The 165's look like pinners, I wouldn't mind having a bit more width. Are there any downsides to a slightly wider tire?

That isn't the stock size for a loyale.

Stock is 185/70/13 and they will fit.

185/80/13 will fit and give you a little extra height....but that size is hard to find anymore, and makes handling suck.

I'd say a good set of 185/70/13s are the way to go.

or maybe a 205/60/13:grin: if you want better handling and a bit lower ride.

Sorry I got some numbers mixed up. The plate inside the door says 165SR13, and the tires on the car now are 165/80 13. This is for a 93 loyale wagon 4wd.

When I look up tires for this car, tirerack tells me 185/70 13 is stock (just like you said).

But other sites have 165 listed for this car.

It's confusing! And thanks for the input.

The proper size tire is one that has the right diameter. On most EA82 cars that is 23.2" this matches up with 185/70/13 195/60/14 and 205/50/15. Look at the diameter of the tires that are listed on the door and match that you should be able to find what you need this way.

Ok, thanks a lot. I went down to the tire store and bugged them with the same questions. It makes sense now. Thanks for all the advice.

165SR13 is stock. 165/80-13 is as close as we can get now, if you can find them. 185/70-13 is the same diameter as 165/80, so it fits fine, again if you can find them.

175/70-13 has pretty close to the same load rating as 165/80, but they are noticeably smaller in diameter. Availability is better than the 165/80 and 185/70. 155/80-13 has the same diameter as 175/70, but a lower load rating. Not recommended. Too bad they are the easiest to find.
