Hello all,

Obviously new to the forum, figured it was time to join.

I currently have a 1998 Legacy GT-B (EJ20H backed by 4sp auto). Lately, it is beginning to honk a bit when I lift the throttle. In my old VW days (1.8T) that was an indication of a failing bypass valve. If this is true for Subarus as well I was wondering if someone could recommend a source for finding a replacement. Aftermarket or stock is fine and I can order no problem from the US so it doesn't need to be a supplier that will ship internationally.

Cheers

Chris

Welcome to USMB, Chris (first time I've ever said that to someone in Namibia!!! :) )

I know nothing about turbos but I'm sure those who do will jump in here.

Welcome.

Can you describe the "honk" a little more. I think you're probably on target for it being the bypass valve. You can remove it and blow through it and see if it leaks.

I'd recommend staying with a full recirculating bypass valve over a vent to atmosphere valve.
