Cooling fan wiring hacked up on 83 Brat!

Featured Replies

Just bought a one owner 83 brat from a Farmer. He "fixed" a cooling fan problem by hooking the fan direct to the battery. Since he used it in his orchard he just got out and hooked the fan up when he drove into town. Geez!

I bought a new thermocouple sensor, but don't know where the wiring is in the harness to hook it up properly. (ordered a manual, but can't wait till it arrives!)

Some question:

Is there any relay between the sensor and the fan?

I'm assuming the sensor is on the rear of the block, passenger side. The wire for it goes into the wiring harness, but don't know where it comes out to connect to the fan.

There are two fans (it has AC, disconnected of course!) One with a shroud on the passenger side, and another in the center of that appears to be for the AC. Not sure which one is the main fan.

I have a 2003 WRX wagon, and this one is certainly waay more mellow!:)

Here's a link to the Factory Service Manual 1983 FSM. it's got GREAT Pics and beats a Haynes or Chiltons' Hands down. Only thing I noticed is that there are some pages missing in Chapter 15 (the Body electrical setion)

There's a guy on ebay that has been selling various Subaru FSMs.

I bought 2 different years off him and no problems. his ID is 3635ken. here's a link to one of his completed auctions (didn't sell) 83 1600, 1800 FSM
