September 1, 201015 yr my wife was delivering mail today and and the wagon left her set again. not charging again. replaced alt. and still nothing. do the have internal or external voltage regulator. i'm tired of this pos and will never buy another subaru but i need to get it fixed like yesterday! can anyone help? could it be a short?
September 1, 201015 yr No charging could be due to low/no voltage on the "field" wire. It's one of the wires in the plug that goes in the back of the alt. It has to receive at least 12v or it won't charge. It's a safety to keep it from overworking and burning out. I wanna say it's the white wire in the plug. Hopefully someone else can confirm that. Where did you buy the alternator? Subaru had trouble during a few years in the mid 90's and had to warranty a lot of alternators. 1stsubaruparts.com has the alternator you need for around $70+ shipping.
September 1, 201015 yr Author the one i tried is off my other subaru i'm junking that is only was only about a month old. i think it is an usa alt. where does the wire run from the alt? i need to buy another car tomarrow or get it fixed. down to one vehicle and we both need to go to work.
