February 27, 200422 yr For starters i know i'm losing horse power compared to the EA-82, but with the loss of the timing belts i'm gaining a whole lot more reliability. Engine mods: Ea-71 pistons heads shaved .015 1.70/1.42 valves Delta Cam torque grind Disty Recurve Acell coils and wires 32/36 Weber High flow exhaust to come soon So with those mods it should do ok, i hope Anyway, i'll probably be doing this on Sunday, and i'll have my friends digital camera so if there are any picture requests along the way let me know, cause i know swapping parts is always tricky even with pics, so if you have any ideas of what to shoot I'll try to get them. As far as Clutch stuff i'm running in front of the 88 GL Dual range 5spd EA-81 Flywheel, 84+ with 9" face EA-82 pilot bearing, apparantly its the same EA-81-82 EA-82 pressure plate EA-82 Clutch EA-82 Throw out bearing.
February 27, 200422 yr swap over the ea82 pitch bar mount. the ea82 battery cable will fit on the starter you can use the ea82 water pump and water pipe, as it will bolt up the pulley will be slightly offset from the crank pulley. the belt will line up to work, as it wont be much more than half the belts width offset. if you use an ea82 alternator bracket and power steering pump, all of the ea82 system will line up, but you can only use one belt, if i recall. suppose you can space the crank pulley with a suitable spacer? the power steering pump will match the car's connections so with this you will have the water pipe fpr the ea82 radiator. an ea81 manifold tstat outlet is in back, use the ea81 upper hose. but an ea82 carb setup will bolt right on, and it will be compatible with the car, and ea82 upper hose will work. and then go to weber if you do if your car is spfi, then the ea81 disty will still work just 2 wires to the coil, leave all the spfi connections hang and tuck them away, if you go back to spfi (*if your car is spfi*) use an ea82 y pipe
March 23, 200620 yr Cool, This is exactly what I am about to attempt! Please post if you have any issues. My ea81 engine is complete with all accessories so mine might go a bit different, but it is nice to have someone doing it at the same time!
