93 subaru impreza shifting funny

Featured Replies

Hi this will be my first post to this web forum, i love it here it has been so helpful!! I just bought a 93 subari impreza for my wife is has 125000 AWD auto tranny its really clean! I paid 1500 for it. but it shifts very erratic. and will rev really high before shifting. their is a check engine code flashing but it usually turns ON after driving the car for a minute or so. I have no idea of how well it has been maintained. very soon i plan on flushing the tranny to see what that does, I just put the original tires back on they came with the car the tires that were on it when i bought the car were from a 2 wheel drive car and were not even close to being evenly worn. so if someone could shed some light on why it shifts as it does that would be amazing. I used this forum to diagnose a 97 outback wagon i owned. cause when i bought the car the seller had disconnected the rear drive shaft, and when i reconnected it the car made a horrible grinding noise when turning. I found on this forum it was called torque bind. so I went to the junk yard pulled out a duty c solenoid and the gearing i needed the dude only charged me 20 bucks for it all and i fixed it that nigh!! so i have faith in the geniuses here thank you for your time

mismatched tires are really bad on the trans but that's already taken care of it sounds like.

we need to know what that engine code is.

is the fluid the proper level?

change the fluid. hopefully you don't see anything but keep an eye on the fluid and see if anything comes out with it, particles, chunks, gunk on the drain plug. one drain and refill only gets %30 of the fluid out.

TPS can effect shifting too.
