This morning I was too lazy to wipe the snow/ice off the window, and I wish I would have just done it. They moved a bit, then stopped after I heard a rapid paced clicking noise inside the steering column. Sounded kind of like a relay. As a matter of fact, I was on my way to get my new tires installed and get it aligned :P.

 

When I got back, I checked the fuse - good - replaced anyway for kicks. Running a jumper wire from the battery to the wiper motor, it works. Same for the mist function on the bottle. NOTHING works from the stalk, however.

 

I was getting ready to pull the switch off, but it looks like I need a steering wheel puller. In an effort to not have to run back into town tonight to rent one from Autozone, I'd like to know, is there anything else I should be looking at? To me, it seems like the switch went kaput. Guess the snow was a bit too much of a load, and I can't find a wiper relay anywhere which doesn't make sense.

If you are sure you have the correct fuse for the wipers then make sure that power is getting to it also. Just looking at the fuse is only half the check out.

 

I assume you mean circuit breaker when you talk about a 'relay' in the circuit. Wiper circuits usually use a self resetting circuit breaker for the power I believe.

There is power to the fuse, just double checked it.

 

Not sure at this point - I guess I'm down to trying a new switch. I wish I had a wiring diagram for this thing so I could see what wires are what, and possibly just set up some kind of wire under the dash so if I need wipers I can have them, considering we're about to see a little snow here.

Found a service manual... switch is operating as it's supposed to. Now I'm confused... both sides of fuse have voltage, wiper motor works when jumped from batt... bad ground somewhere????

I am completely baffled. Resistance checks on switch were OK, Fuse was OK (and getting power), I could run jumper wires from the batt to the low speed and high speed pins (plus the ground wire) on the motor and the wipers would respond accordingly, AND even weirder yet, the voltages on the low and high speed pins are showing on the female end (coming from car).

 

I would spring to try a new switch, but I don't know where to get one. I really wish I had an extra switch and wiper motor laying around lol this would go a lot faster. Theoretically, this should work :banghead:

If you have the proper voltage coming from the switch in the low speed position and the motor doesn't work then the wiring between the two points needs to be checked.

Wiring is different color from under the dash to the wiper motor... I wish I could figure out what's in between or where everything goes. I may just rig up manual switch for now just so I have wipers and mist again, but I don't know if that will pass PA inspection.

If the service manual you have doesn't show the proper wire colors then you should invest in a factory manual. It will show it all. That is why they are so much better than a regular manual. I should be able to find out some info tomorrow when I get back home. I have a CD with some info.

 

From what info I have seen it shows the wiper delay module berween the switch and the motor. Have you located the delay module and checked it?
