flatfour73
I have a 78 brat. last year i heard a rattle as i left a stop light. I checked it out and the plastic fan had melted off the bolts on the pully because the bearings goyt so hot. I have always hated manual fans so i wanted to install electric. The first step wes getting the pulley removed. If you have or can obtane a cut off saw replace the blade wth a metal cutting blade. It is tricky and dangerouse but you can get it off by holding the part with vise grips and wearing a face shield. now yo have the bracket with no pully, great, ire-install it. the adjustment pully must be lifted about 3/4 inch to get a belt to on small enough to fit it. this can be done with a spacer or some thick washers. find the belt at the parts store to fit. now the alternator is installed. I bought the $60 fan at autozone and it fit neatly into the shroud of the secondary fan. the secondary works fine without a shroud. ( i live in Vegas so I would be the first to overheat if id did not). get a relay and wire the fan to the battery so it has full power and the relay to the automatic choke wire as it only comes on when the engine is running. the only downfall is the older models have a low tolerance to additional electrical components so just make sure you keep a well serviced and quality battery in your vehicle.
