flatfour73
I was going home one day and I lost control of shifting ability. I though one of the linkage bolts came out. Not that lucky. The shift selector broke in half inside the tranny. I took it apart and pulled it out. it had failed on the o-ring groove. none of the machine shops wanted anything to do with it unless I wanted to spend alot of dough. I ended up tapping the split surfaces, inserting a grade 8 all thread and tightening it as much as possible. I then welded the groove with my old ratty wire flux core wire feed and re grinded an o-ring groove. I had to fill the old likage holes and re drill new ones. That worked out for the better as i dont have to reach in my unsuspecting passenger's lap anymore when shifting into reverse. I put it back together, said a prayer, wished upon a star and said ten hail marys. It has held for over a year now and hope it keeps holding until I can find a decent ea81 5-speed combo to rebuild.
