If yesterday you start your vehicle and everthing is fine. But today when you start it up it seems to be chugging Could it be so cold that the oil is solid or tar like. And if it is, how do you fix this. Is it safe to start the vehicle and get the oil to loosen up or will that damage the motor.

Kind of suprised no one spoke up. Doesnt matter, guy had to go to work. Warmed up his car and tossed a rod out the block.

If the oil is too thick it just won't crank over - would sound like a dying battery.

 

I run 10w30 and my ea82 fires up fine at -10 degreese F in the morning. Not even any lifter tick. It sounds like there was something else wrong or not properly adjusted in the valve train.

 

I just replaced all the seals and nothing is leaking. It worries me a little bit to reach high oil pressures when it's thick, but no problems so far. Idealy you should put a heater on the oil pan over night, for true engine health.

a rule of thumb i have been going on is that i avoid driving it if my oil pressure is too far over 45psi at a high idle. (i know the dash gauge is not accurate, but its the principle) mine does not like being run very cold. i wish i had a block heater if anyone had one they could throw my way it would make my day.
