February 22, 201115 yr Hello, I have an '84 GL Wagon 4Hi/Lo. Heres my problem, when I shift into 3rd, whether going up or down through the gears it will grind. If i really push the shifter forward it kind of catches into gear. This is a new problem and my only car. So help me out please. Are the synchros going out? Or what is my problem? Thanks in advance. John
February 22, 201115 yr If your car is sitting still (not moving, parked), can you put the tranny into 3rd? If so, probably synchros; if not (after several attempts, since their are some variables involved) it is likely something else.

When Running clutch in of course, Parked, I can put the car into any gear. When not running clutch in or out, Parked, I can put the car into any gear. What does that tell me?
