Timing Belt Fried

Featured Replies

I have a driver's side timing belt frazzel fry. The water pump was leaking a little eventually on to the belt. Did that slip it off the gears and fry it? Fresh rebuilt EA82 not a new water pump. I would like to drive it more than 500 miles. Any body have reasons for the timing belt blowing up?

Non-interference for any ea82, good to go!. We just got a 86 gl with a broken timing belt for 200, and fixed it on the trailer with spare parts. easy enough to do. ditch the timing belt covers for easier serviceability.

Water pump has no operation with the timing belt with an ea82 motor.

make sure to follow the correct procedure for installing new ones.

yea do yourself a favor and look up mile's art of subaru maintenance videos on youtube, they were a real lifesaver for me

could be a seized idler or pully, so check them all before you install a belt.

I got a new timing belt and checked all the idlers and pullies. I found I put the crank gears for the belt on backwards which allowed it to slip into my covers. I am running with the covers off and no problems yet. I am going to modify the center cover so it easier to take on and off. Cut it in half so it gets around the harmonic balancer without all that work.
