Split motor with crank/rod/pistons assembled?

Featured Replies

Hey guys splitting my ej22t's now I don't want to start prying on things yet till I verify that I can indeed do this? I obviously removed the heads removed as many bolts as I can see and I can't seem to pry the block apart, but figured before I get "creative" i would verify there isn't bolts or something behind the pistons lol. Some input or suggestions would be great! After some searching I have gathered it is easy to split the block and to keep flipping it around and verifying all the bolts are out which I am pretty confident they are.

You do have a service manual right?

You should remove the pistons before splitting the block.

The block halves are sealed together with some type of Three Bond sealer (I don't recall the exact number), and it's tough stuff, so it may take some elbow grease to get it apart. There are also a handful of alignment dowels that often make this type of thing more difficult to separate.

Did you remove the bolts that are down inside the water jacket area?

You really should remove the wrist pins. Its not difficult if you remove the three 14mm hex plugs and use a stiff, brass brazing rod, maybe 1/4" dia., to drive them out. Don't forget to remove the circlips first..

Double checked missed 2 bolts. Came apart no problem just undid the rod bolts while it was partially separated.
