I replaced a driver side cam carrier housing that was stolen with one from the internet. Now my distributor will not go all the way down and fit properly. The rotor shaft turns freely, but the distributor housing is too big for the mounting hole. Anybody know why?

try sanding the shaft of the disty with high grit paper. It should fit by itself. maybe there is a little corrosion on it. also, try a spot of motor oil on the shaft.

Thanks, tried all that, used WD40, no corrosion, but still too tight. feels like the shaft or the hole is tapered. Goes in part way, but gets tighter as it goes down.

the only thing you replaced was the cam carrier?

did you replace the cam too?

EA82 distributors should be exchangeable all day long - what vehicle did the cam carrier come off of?
