99 Outback Sport rear brakes...

Featured Replies

I recently did my front disc brakes, but the rears are drum and looks more complicated than my old 83 GL. Does the ABS ring/lug ring come off, or is it easier to just work around it? Also, once finished, what is the final adjustment through the slot on the backing plate, and is there an adjustment tool for purchase that fits in that slot? Thanks for all of the help on this. I need a damned manual!!!

Work around the ABS ring, it does not come off without pulling the hub out.

Make sure the E-brake cable is backed off then put the brakes together and adjust the shoes until they just touch the drum. There should be a little clearance. You can double check them once you have operated the brakes with the drums on by turning the adjuster through the back slot.

Or, you could swap over to disk brakes. It takes the complete setup from a rear disk car along with the e-brake cables.
