98 Outback won't start after dead battery

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm mostly a lurker looking for help. Have a 98 Legacy Outback. I rolled the windows down to air the car out and left the key on draining the battery. I have charged the battery up but the car will not start. Turns over, sounds like it wants to start but will not. It is making an odd buzzing sound when I depress the accelerator. Tried some starting fluid but to no avail. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Brett

Key off. Trickle charge overnight. Going to try and jump it a little later. Maybe not enough battery power to fire?

Original battery?

If it is... the drain might have finished it off.

Im with Commuter now. I think you should take the battery out and take it to a parts store for a test. If its bad it will be revealed quickest that way and you have your old one there to core exchange too.

Its probably got a dead short internally or something.

It's not a good sign when starting fluid fails to get an engine fired up in my opinon. Hopefully the engine is just really flooded with fuel. You may want to pull a plug and look it over. If it is real wet with fuel you could pull the rest and then crank the engine a little to blow out the rest of the fuel. Dry the plugs off and then place them back in the same cylinder holes they came from. If the plugs are pretty wore, you may just want to put new ones in since you have the old ones out.

Keep us posted.

Just wondering what the outcome was.
