1997 Impreza TPS and Check Light Problem

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Recently my check engine light came on so I went to the auto parts story to see what was up. They hooked up the reader and said that the Throttle Position Sensor was causing the light to come on. (Which made sense as my car was acting rather jerky...)

Either way, I purchased a new TPS (verified that I bought the correct TPS) and installed it. The car runs better, however, the check engine light is still shining. I took it back to the auto store...and they said that the code still showed that the TPS was faulty.

How could that be? I replaced it with a brand new one. Is there something that Im missing with this?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

But was the code cleared when, or after, the TPS was replaced? If not, the CEL will remain on for three full driving cycles after the problem is corrected and then go out automatically. The code will remain in memory for up to 40 drive cycles before being erased.
