Steel vs alloy lug nuts?

Featured Replies

An old wise man told me there are specific lug nuts for alloy wheels. Is this true? It sounds like it would make sense.

Reason being that I am running stock steels up front and subaru alloys in back untill I can get good tires on some spoke rims I have.

I just used the existing lug nuts that were holding the steelies on.

Will steel lugs break my alloy rim? or just not lock correctly?

I have a full set of alloy lug nuts and they look to have the same taper as my steel wheel nuts, the only difference I have noticed is they have more of a flat top than the steel wheel nuts and they are black. Last year I ran a set of alloys with steel wheel lugs nuts, and they were fine, never had an issue they didn't loosen up or hurt the wheel.
