I noticed that my 96 Legacy blows some blue smoke at startup when cold, it goes away in a few seconds.

 

On any other engine I would say this is valve seals leaking but am not sure with this engine arrangement. The car has 94k miles on it. 2.5L DOHC.

 

What should I look for??

My 96 Legacy 2.2L blows billowing WHITE smoke at start-up when it's cold. Dealer told me that was just cuz it's cold. Haven't noticed any blue, though. Sorry.

Are you sure its blue?Black smoke for a short bit would just indicate running rich which is normal on start up.Blue does sound like valve seale,but if its only a short while I'd let it ride till it lasts for a couple mins.
