Has anyone had trouble with the tranny not dropping into gear (Drive only) after sliding shifter to " D "? Sometimes takes 30+ seconds / Dealer says I need a new Tranny @ $4500. I have a 99 leg. Outback with only 75000 miles. Fluid changed @ 50000 and 74000 ( after problem started ).

Has the external filter been changed? Could be any number of things. I would start with the cheap stuff and probably get a second opinion.

4500$, that seems like an awful lot. It might be cheaper to convert the car to manual, if thats possible on a car equppied with AWD.
