What wheels fit a gen1 4wd?

Featured Replies

I recently tried to put ea82 wagon wheels on a 77 4wd wagon only to find on the rear they wouldn't fit because they hit the trailing arm. The other wheels I had also would not fit, I think they were ea81 era steelies. Anyone know what my wheel options are for this car? I've had jackmans on it for years, and am about to sell it and I want to keep my jackmans

i ran into the same issue i have the stock steelies that came on the wagon but the later ones i tried to put on hit the control arm

I run ea82 rally wheels on my 77 fwd sedan. Had to do a little grinding and backspacing but they fit. You may need some longer wheel studs depending on how much backspacing you need.

Was that the same problem, ie the trailing arm?

not sure if the trailing arms are the same on a fwd v.s. a 4wd gen 1 car, but yes the rear trailing arm on my fwd rubbed. The rally wheels are aluminium. I grinded a very small ammount on the inner lip of the rim, grinded a vey little bit on the weld seam area of the trailing arm where it hit the wheel. and then threw on 2 washers for back spacing. without the grinding I would have had to add more washers, wich would require longer wheel studs. Any more than 2 washers and there really isn't enough threads for the nuts. The front wheels mounted on the front no problem.

Unless aluminum H rims will fit, I 've got to find something before I get her sold. Sucks cause in the last couple years I sent at least 8 gen 1 steelies to the melting pot. I didn't know, I thought any gen 2 wheel would fit.

wheels from the ea81 cars should fit, they have less back space, the H wheel were from that model from memory.

Cheers Thierry

Hmmm. I thought the steelies I tried were from an ea81, as the guy who gave them to me said they were off a brat, but maybe they were originally off an ea82. I think the H alloys are of the ea82 era as well, but I'll see if they fit anyway. I'll see if I can find some desidedly ea81 wheels and give them a shot too.
