97' Impreza Steering Rack Replacement

Featured Replies

Replacing my steering rack in a 97' Impreza OB. I have it about 90% put back together and just realized I didn't replace the O-rings on screw in lines. Think I already know the answer but am looking for suggestions on whether or not I need to drop the rack again and install new rings.

Thanks-

I reuse them all the time without any problems or leaks. The fittings are easy to cross thread. I always take the little clamp off the flex lines.

Thanks. Put everything together and had it aligned. No leaks.

However, I 'm chasing a vibration when I turn the wheel while move at slow speeds. double checked the fluid level and its OK. Wondering if I still have some air trapped in there that can't get out.

Auto?

Is the AT Temp light flashing 16 times after you start?

It is an automatic. Nothing flashing on the dash upon startup. Funny, wasn't happening until I changed the rack.

Sounds like you have some air still in the system. Does the pump make noise at all?

  • Author

The pump is quiet, nothing out of the ordinary. I need to jack it up and turn the wheel side to side several times, right?

Yes, I typically have the car on the rack with very light pressure on the wheels to help bleed out the system.
