January 2, 201214 yr My b u lights are inop i have a 1998 legacy outback wagon 2.5i manual trans. 1. The bulbs are ok 2. The back up switch is ok 3. The fuse is ok the indication is the lights come on then go off immediately. I have done the following checks: Disconnected the switch pigtail and shunted across the plug ends to the lights. The indication is the same, on then off. Please advise if there is a relay in the circuit and where it might be, or something i have not already checked.
January 2, 201214 yr Can you read the voltage with the lamp installed? www.brighterideas.com had the Load Pro. Sounds like you have a bad connection that will not handle the load, heating up and opening up the circuit. Check the grounds!
January 2, 201214 yr I'm willing to bet it needs a switch, The end is plastic where it rides on the shifter rod and they will flat spot after awhile, causing them to come on briefly then go back off. Pull the switch to verify but I bet that's the issue.
January 3, 201214 yr If he jumped the car side of the wiring the switch was out of the picture! But, yes if the switch is in the circuit that could be it.
