February 10, 201214 yr An engine weighs about 200#. I recently took a Subie 2.5 motor to a wrecking yard as scrap. Surprised when a skinny young guy lifted the engine up by himself from the tailgate area of my OBW, and placed it in the scoop of a front end loader. Makes my back hurt just thinking about what he did. Good luck on installing your new motor.
February 10, 201214 yr Author Yep, they're kinda tiny. The block by itself you can pick up and carry around without much trouble. Festiva! I drove one of those for a few months. It was a go cart with a tin shell, it was so much fun to drive! It would burn clear through third gear in the rain. Mine burns through all gears in the rain ^^^
February 13, 201214 yr Author Progress has been made... had it out within a few hours of getting it in the garage.
February 16, 201214 yr Author So I got it all back together the other night, but the new engine is junk. Sounds like theres no rod bearings in it. Found a 31k mile engine on car-part for $1300, and a 30k mile one for $1400. Im gonna find out if either place buys core/rebuildable engines since I now have two.
February 17, 201214 yr Will the place you bought the "new" engine from take it back? I would tell them they better....
February 17, 201214 yr Author I wouldnt even try, I was told it had a knock and gambled on it being piston slap, and I dont really wanna go back to that place, it made me wish I had my concealed carry permit. I bought it for pennies compared to the "good" junkyard engines out there. Im probably looking at spending 3-4 times as much now for one thats guaranteed to be good/low miles.

For that amount you are not that far from a rebuilt engine with a warranty: http://www.ssisubaruspecialists.com/subaru-engine-remanufacturing-2/ They bought my EJ25 (which threw a rod) for a decent amount as well (that's the only contact I have had so far with them, BTW)

If you bought the engine from a company verses an individual, I would think they would have warranted the motor. The wrecking yard I buy stuff from warrants everything for 30 days. If I have a problem, take the part back for an exchange at no cost.

Its also a 5 hour drive. I'll check into it.
February 21, 201214 yr Author Well they havent gotten back to me yet... must not like business too much. I might try "the sube shop" in Morgantown next.
February 26, 201214 yr Author Sourced a very well running engine 5 miles from where Im working on the car, for a good price at that. Knocker is already out, less than two hours, these things are so easy to pull. Good engine should be in tomorrow.
February 28, 201214 yr Author Well the good engine is in and it does run great, but now the clutch wont fully disengage! Seriously! Im going nuts here!
February 28, 201214 yr Well obviously there has to be something wrong. I mean, if the clutch worked correctly the engine would be knocking. Unplug a light bulb or cut one of the seat belts. Then nothing else will go wrong. :-p Just kidding. Is the pedal spongy? Or does it feel like the release point is just too low?
February 29, 201214 yr Author The disc was messed up. Possibly happened when I put it back together. The hub was pushed back so it was sticking out of the other side of the disc. Car is now running and driving
