March 17, 201214 yr I purchased this head as an NOS 1600 EA71 head, but it is not the same as what came off of my brat. Can anyone identify what head it is? Mine is stamped E71, I can not find any markings on this one. Mine is one on the right, and the supposed NOS 1600 on the left, but I am not sure that it is.
March 17, 201214 yr Their is a late model ea71 that came out in 79 - 81 that had no stainless inserts in ex ports did it have ports for air injection ? probly a late model ea71 head. The late model one makes a bitt more power and has a one piece intake and water pump bolts to block.
March 24, 201214 yr The valves on the NOS head are smaller too. Combustion chambers look smaller too. Higher compression? Maybe from a 1300 or 1400? Kostamojen may know. Dirk
March 24, 201214 yr maybe they are for the 'fat case' ea71 which shares dimensions with an ea81 but 1600 displacement in later model hatchbacks with the side starter.

Valves are big I also have a set of JDM 1600 heads which have the smaller combustion chambers but again the valves are big.

But, the valve set sent with the head did fit the NOS head, but dropped in past the seat on my head. I'd just buy a set and use them but my head has one extra water line tapped into it. If anyone has a good 1600 head with the ten circle taps, let me know. I'm still in the market. At least according to the head gaskets on rockauto, all 1600 brats had what I'm starting to call the ten hole head. I can't find a head gasket to match that other head for ID.
