over fueling problem

Featured Replies

I need some help with my subi

its a 1993 legacy GT wagon auto my trouble began one morning out of the blue the car just started to stall

constantly i retrived the codes and have now replaced the air flow meter and the crank angle sensor the car seemed to idle better than it ever has but once driven it seems to over fuel and fouls the plugs once the plugs are clean the car again idles fine and revs nice when still but same problem once driven

then after rooting around i found the car wouldnt start at all and found the fuel pump had given up so at the same time i replaced the fuel filter and pump but still have the same problems i have been back the supplier of the air flow meter and they assure me the air flow meter is okay the car produces boost so i am assuming that the turbo is okay there are also no check engine lights that come on subaru Australia wont touch the car as its a private jap import any help would be great

Might be a coolant temp sensor issue. if the sensor is giving incorrect engine temp info back to the computer that could cause the car to run far richer then it should.

Is the car stock? Have you upgraded the injectors or anything else?

I like Josh's suggestion, replacing the temperature sensor for the ECU may solve this problem. You should be able to check it out before you replace it. By checking the voltage at various temperatures you should see different voltages at the sensor contact if it is ok. Be sure to indentify the correct sensor as you have two of them. The other is for the temperature guage. If the sensor is ok then I would see if you have a leaky injector.

The car is stock it runs a vf 10 turbo with a 3 inch exhaust

running boost at 1 bar it does have a after market ( boxer series)air fuel ratio controller but this is not hooked up and has not been hooked up since it has been imported i am assuming that the temp sensor that i am after is under the left hand side of the inlet manifold. am i correct it looks to have one wire connection.

I think that is the correct one. After you remove the wire connected to the sensor check the temperature gauge in the dash to see if it changed. If it does change then you know that you have the wrong one.

The one you want is the two wire sensor. The one wire sensor goes to the dash

here's a pic of the sensor, it's the brown one

I wonder if before it was imported they replaced the injectors with larger ones.....which is why they had the fuel controller in there to cut back on the duty % of the injectors. It would make sense.....

thanks for the pic i will try to locate the temp sensor i think that i will just replace the thing any way depending on the cost .

i may have to get a lambda meter set up and check the air fuel ratio:banghead:
