April 17, 201213 yr Hey guys, Doing a 4" lift on a 91 legacy with a 4EAT, and it occured to me that the speedo cable will not be long enough to reach. Never had a problem with that before when i was lifting gen 2s and 3s. can i take a cable off of a different model? or do i need to buy a gps. Thanks!

The automatic transmission won't work properly without a speedo cable. It upsets the computer, and it won't shift. It's like having the governor disconnected on an old tranny. I'm pretty sure a manual cable is longer because it has to go half way back on the transmission, not just to the front diff.
April 17, 201213 yr at least in an ea82, the manual trans speedo cable is longer because the speedo is mouned on the side rather than te top. you might get by with an MT cable. this is an idea. I would have to confirm this with ej's
April 20, 201213 yr How do you know it won't be long enough? I've coaxed extra length from wires/cables before by moving their mounting points and rerouting them. I'd even go so far as to drill a new hole in the firewall to move where the cable comes through if needed. Perhaps it can be run inside the firewall and run out much lower down, like on top of the tunnel?
