The rear bearing on the '05 (assuming that was the one making noise), are bolt in style which is great as there is no pressing needed. Just unbolt the caliper, slide the rotor off, remove the axle nut and the 4 bolts holding into the knuckle from the back and pop it out.

Usually they require a bit of "motivation" to come out but the do eventually:horse:

I got this thread confused with another with a 95 wagon with bad rear wheel bearing sorry. yeah bolt on hub assembly is a piece of cake.

By the powers, you're right! A couple bolts and an axle nut and the whole bearing and hub come out as one piece.

All of a sudden that seems like alot more than it should be. Anybody know off hand what labor guides recommend for a rear bearing change on this model? I would think 2 hours should be plenty for a simple unbolt and swap. The part lists at only $140 from a dealer.

It can be bought at Autozone for less. They have a Timken bearing for $120. A cheaper one for under $100.

Does your mechanic buddy friend have a torque wrench? This job's one I'd do for a case of beer and a home cooked meal. :drunk:

I think we charge an hour for labor for each side but I also clean and adjust the parking brake up while I'm in there.

Timken bearings are not as good as they used to be. Same name, different part quality:Flame:

I just brought it to the dealer, my friend was lacking the tools to fix my car. All in all it was $139 for the part, $239 for labor, and then taxes...at least my car is quiet now!
