Forester stereo install help

Featured Replies

Looking for feed back from anyone who has installed a non-factory stereo in a Forester.

I'm looking for something to replace my factory stereo. I have found the unit I want (sony). The store has "free" installation for $36.00? They say it's for adapters an connectors. Seems like a heck of a price for a plastic connector and a metal bracket.

When I had one installed in my Camry, they had it installed in 5 minutes!

My question is how easy is it to install one in a Forester? I have replaced my dash with the "wood grain", so I'm familiar with disassembly to gain access to the general area of the stereo.

Feeling cheap!

01 Forester, needs a working clock and a better stereo:mad:

I have a 99 and if I recall the last time I was in there I pulled the console first which has several screws.

There might have been a couple of screws in the cover over the stereo but I am not sure now. I did not have to pull the cupholder and the cover popped off easily.

On mine the stereo is held in by a couple of screws once you get the cover off.

Since stereos usually come with dierctions it should be fairly easy.

If you buy from Crutchfield they come with good directions.

It's very easy. All you'd need to buy is the wiring harness, and those are usually less than $20. The new radio will screw into the bracket that the old radio was already in.

you don't even have to buy the adapter.

The adapter is easier for sure and would make putting the old one back to sell it simple.
