BRAT A/C install

Featured Replies

So, last year I bought an 86 BRAT and it didn't have air. Living in Phoenix, that's not really a good plan if you want to use the car for more than 5 months out of the year. At the time, I thought, heck, I'll put some air in it later. We'll, the time has come. I picked up a junk yard find, but I may be in this a bit over my head. So, here I am presenting my questions to the experts. Please bear in mind that I'm not that mechanical (even that might be an overstatement). So, talk to me like a 10 year old about the mechanical stuff, if you care to help.

First off, the donor car is a 1983 BRAT, is that a problem? Same engine size, 1800cc.

My goal is to get all the AC parts off the car and, at worst, have someone else install them. At best, I'll do it myself (dreamer!). Is there some documentation that someone can recommend that tells me exactly what I need and maybe how to take it/them off? Right now, I just want to get whatever I need off safely to make sure I have everything for the eventual install. Then, I'll need to dispose of the car and let you guys pick it apart, maybe. Any suggestions?

first off does the part brat run? if it does check to make sure the ac works and if it doesn't run and its been sitting for years the ac has probably gone bad(the coolant stuff in the thing that sits above/next to the alternator goes bad so u would need to buy a new one but u can get the coolant but its a hazardous material so u have to have a special license to buy it)
