Having issues with 2000 subrau Legacy

Featured Replies

This is the only way I can describe what is happening Last week my car started to back fire and the engine started to shake. I took the car to my local shop and he replaced the coil pack twice. After the second coil pack everything seemed to be running fine. Later that day while I was driving up hill accelerating there was a clunk noise near the front left tire. ( not when I was turning) and my car seemed to struggle. When that happened the car seemed to jerk or jump while I was driving it home. I had to leave and when i started my car everything was I put the car in Reverse and it staled then had trouble starting for about 2-3 mins. Today I drove it and it was fine in till I put gas in it now the car is starting to back fire and the engine is shaking. My local shop is so confused by this and I was wondering if anyone else has ever had any of these issues before. Thank you all in advance

First and foremost, You need a new shop. If they can't diagnose a simple misfire, they aren't worth their weight in salt.

When was the last time it got a tune up? Spake plugs and wires, air and fuel filters, PCV valve?

yeah, at that point i would probably take a pile of salt over those guys.

check the plugs to see what they look like. a black plug will indicate too much fuel, a white plug means too lean. thick caked buildup means burning oil, and a wet plug means its not firing.

you can read plugs even farther into it, but those are the basics.

1. Any check engine light? if so - which cylinders were misfiring?

2. have the plugs/wires ever been changed? (if not then they should be with NGK plugs and Subaru wires)

3. has the timing belt ever been changed? (if not it needs replaced, it's 13 years old)

So I just changed the fuel injector, Coil pack and plug wires myself yesterday. Everything was going smooth till I went up my drive way. The car seemed to have lost power and was struggling to pull up. Check engine is not on. I was thinking about going some where else today. I just need some one to diagnosis it I have no problem doing the labor.

Thank you all for your reply's

Are you sure the CEL works? It shoudl be on when you firs turn the key to "ON".

I have seen cars where the bulb was simply removed.

Symptoms like this should be throwing codes.

Fuel pressure?
