Elect. problem - Dash, park

Sometimes I just can't get ahead...

*edit* - car is 82 GL wagon, 4wd

Well, for some mysterious reason Everything having to do with that fuse is now refusing to work. this is an 82 - the fuse box cover says "Ig. Coil/Guages" - and sure enough if I pull the fuse (good) the car will stop running - but everything else on it has quit on me, ie: Dash, front park lights, and tail lights (haven't checked license plate light). This is really puzzling me though - what could be stopping all of those seperate things from working WITHOUT blowing the fuse??? Anyone have this happen to them before? - If so what was it, how'd you remedy it.

To those of you who know I put in a stereo today - I dont see how it can be correlated; I only used a single hot that was already hanging down from previous stereos (and I tested it and it was hot with ACC/ON - unlike the parklights, which on an 82 are hot at all times)

If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck and walks like a duck its probably a duck. :-) Backtrack on what you have done to see if the problem goes away.

Also remember that if this fuse runs more than one accessory then it likely branches out somplace between the fuse and the items it is powering. Start tracing wires. Hopefully you have a VOM to check all this out. Given that the problem started when you installed the stereo makes me think you could have knocked another wire loose during this process.

Turned out to be initially what I tought it was to begin with - already yanked everything, fixed it, then put it all back in place.... and no one had responded by this afternoon so I was going to just let the post fall back in the ranks unnoticed - but thanks anyway greggbrat ;)

Just turned out to be a wire someone had tried to use as a "hot" that was in the light circuit (dash/park/tail). Needless to say when I tested them it was a 'dead wire' by normal standards (no power with ignitino off, ACC, or ON) - so I taped it up with the other loose (old) speaker wires, and thats what was shorting out. Now I've learned my lesson - taped

A thanks to Russ and Andrew though for trying to help me figure this out (Russ, surely enough it seems it was the power for the light in the old radio) btw - heres a pic of the "final product":

I have a 5spd d/r in an 82 wagon and took the non-jerry's kit route and did my own thing. The storage space and deck position is *awesome* - still trying to find one in tan, and going to get a custom boot sewn up.
