1986 Brat GL transmission swap?

Featured Replies

hello, subaru fans of the world. i have a 1986 Subaru Brat GL. currently in rough shape; a few small fixes required along with a few modifications i want to make, with the stock EA-81 engine and 4 speed 4wd transmission. would it be possible to replace the stock transmission with a T81G 5 speed 4wd transmission? im pretty sure the T81G was built specifically for the EA-81 engine, but will the transmission be too big to fit in the Brat body? and will there be any issues with gear ratios or gears lining up?

I don't know what a "T81G" is, but yes with some simple mods a 5 speed dual range is a worthwhile swap. Send a PM to Jerry (bratsrus1 on here). He makes a kit that takes care of everything and it's all bolt in.

Interested to know what mods are necessary for the swap. In the market for a BRAT and considering one with a swap.... mainly since I'd be doing my own repairs, etc.
