93 Loyale running issue

Featured Replies

Ok im back. The car sat for 5you years. I got her running but the is a slight knocking noise in the engine compartment (more of a loud ticking). It drive down the road but smoke really bad. Any suggestions or does it sound familiar to anyone?

The ticking is the lifters not getting oil, how's the oil look? If its been sitting for that long run some redline fuel cleaner through it clean it out.

Does it run rough? Like its missing?

I got a loyale from my Uncal that ha been sitting for as long as yours, could get it running till I found out three valves stuck open and the rocker arms fell off...

I'd suspect it to smoke for a little while after sitting that long. Change the oil though.... Haha. Get it warm and then drop the oil while its hot.

Good luck!

It runs rough yeah. how hard/expensive to fix the stuck lifters? I believe that is what it is. Changed the oil several days ago.

Probably gummed up from sitting so long, try running either an engine flush through the system or run some diesel engine oil as it is high detergent and a few changes of that will clean it out pretty good,Change it on a regular basis though to get all the muck out quickly diesel engine oil such as shell rotella seems to get used often in the states possibly for that reason.

How you tell if its that is check the compression on each cyl, if you have a 0 psi one rocker is off. Hard start? Take a little winding.

It pretty easy I guess, gotta take the valve covers off and if it still stuck open you won't have to take the cam case off and deal with the others. What you going to want to do is, put the rocker back into place and turn over till the cam roals around to hold it into place with a little pressure. The a lot of WD40, also took a hammer and a punch and pounded on it a little. If it dosnt come free, hold the rocker there and keep WDing it and turning it over till it pops.

Kinda a hard thing to explain... Let me know what you pressures are first though! That'll tell you a lot about the engine too :) run some fuel cleaner through it too!! Haha. Takes time to burn crud out.

Carefull about getting carbon stuck under the valves keep it running at medium revs to avoid that problem when cleaning out engine with seafoam or Subaru upper cylinder cleaner.
