Engine swap question

Featured Replies

I have two 92 ej22 engines that run really well. The question I have is, can the harness from a newer 22 or a 2.5 be swapped onto that motor so that I can drop the engine into a 97 outback? Just curious. It looks like it is doable, but I wanted to see if anyone has done it. I have several harnesses, so that is not an issue for me.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Use the sensors off of the outback, I've done a 91 into 95, both ej22's. The problem you're going to face is the egr system, as its non-existant on the 92.

Thanks and the guy is just going to have to deal with the egr CEL. He really doesn't care as he threw a rod bearing and he wants the car back.

The important parts will all swap over with the intake manifold. Put the 97 manifold on the 92 engine, move the harness with it. The only other sensor I can think of that you might have to swap is the temp sensor.

You will need the dual port Y pipe though.

EGR shouldn't be that hard to trick. EGR has been a hot topic lately and there was a great idea in one thread to just run a hose from the EGR port on the manifold over to the intake box.

Otherwise, GD has detailed instructions on how to drill out the port in the head.

he's replacing am ej25 with the ej22, intake manifolds won't swap
