EA82 Rear Disc Conversion

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've been doing some searching but can't seem to find a good writeup for the rear disc conversion. I  would like to be aware of things to look out for, necessary modifications to brake lines. Is it just a direct bolt-on procedure?

Thanks ahead of time.

Besides the axle nut and wheel lugs, there's only 3 bolts/1 nut and the brakeline to mess with on each side. Basically a straight swap.

Brake line needs to be twisted some when you attach it to the hose on the caliper.

When I did the '85 BRAT, I just twisted the line so it pointed up.

For the '88 Wagon, I ran new lines and bent them to keep hose away from the inside of the rim.

Can't really say how original lines would have to be done.

But you'll see what it needs as you do it.

Look in the USRM, or the "Old USRM". Do believe there is a write-up in there.

Just be cautious with the brake lines.. I routed one of mine incorrectly and the tire rubbed through the brake line in a matter of minutes. Hard to find a replacement, I ended up having to go to a hose shop and have one made. But I routed the other one differently so it didnt touch and it was just fine. Might be something in my thread on my car but I dont remember. :-P Best of luck to ya!
