I have a friend with a 2.5 DOHC in a 98 forester.  I have available a 99 2.5 SOHC motor.  I know that the wiring harness is different, so that would have to be swapped over, but if I do that can the SOHC be dropped in the car?  I was curious if the cam timing might be off and thought that I might be able to swap the cam off a 2.2, so I have wondered about that too.

 

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bratman, that helped alot.  I don't think I am going to go that route.  Just going to get another 2.2 and derop it in.
