Idle question

Featured Replies

I have a friend whose daughter has a 90 loyale and it seems to have a constant high idle.  he says that the idle stays around 2000 all the time.  I am going to look at it tomorrow and just wanted some suggestions as to possible causes.  Any direction will help me gat it fixed faster.

Thanks

Hey Mdjdc, I would check the vacuum lines first maybe? I know my 85 Brat has a high idle as well that doesn't really seem remedied by the idle screw, I am working on replacing all my vacuum lines (as soon as I can identify all of them). Ah the joys of learning.

I would start by checking for codes. coolant temp sensor, iac, vaccume leaks, and sticking or improperly adjusted throttle cable are possible causes.

I would stay away from that screw.  Idle is computer controlled.

I have heard about cleaning IAC valve.

Good luck,

Sam

Thanks guys.  Right now the coumputer is not throwing any codes.  I will look at all the obvious things first and I will clean the throttle body.

Thanks guys.  Turned out that he had a cracked intake boot and the IAC was sticking.  Replaced both of those and now the car idles at 1000 rpm.
