2002 Subaru Outback replace passenger side mirror glass

Featured Replies

I need to replace the passenger side mirror glass on my 2002 Outback, the glass is shattered.

It's a heated/electric mirror.

I have the mirror and plastic backing that came with it, but I can't figure out how to get the old glass off!

I tried for about an hour today and failed miserably. I tried to look up under the mirror but I couldn't see anything.

How exactly do I replace the mirror glass?

Thanks for any help!

I had this same situation on my OBW several years back. Once you break the glass, I came to the conclusion that the mirror was trash. It appears the mirror unit is factory assembled, so not really repairable. I replaced mine with a mirror from a wrecking yard.

Subaru has a glass kit you can buy. They were fairly inexpensive too. Get a heat gun or a good hair dryer if your wife will let you use it. When installing the glass, warm the edges of the black backing that comes over the edge of the glass and it will help with popping the new glass in.
