June 13, 201312 yr I found some 300 watt 4 ohm 6inch speakers today at the junk yard. I plan to put them in the back of my 92 Legacy wagon with the 80 watt factory am fm cassette CD head unit. Will this stereo be able to power it?
June 13, 201312 yr The 300 watt power rating is most likely the peak power rating the speakers are rated for. They usually have two ratings on them.Either way, take a look at the speakers in the car already. I'm guessing if they're stock they're Clarions. There should be an OHM rating on those speakers. If they are also 4 OHMs, you're good.Somebody else will probably chime in here knowing what OHMs the stock speakers are if you want to wait a bit.
June 13, 201312 yr No. 20 watts max per channel on the factory deck. they'll make sound, but not crisp.
June 14, 201312 yr Studio tech here - they'll work, but not to their full potential. Chances are, the 300w label you have on the speakers is peak power, while the 80w probably refers to RMS power (or average power if you like). The speakers are probably 40 to 60w RMS. Put them in, see if they sound alright - if they're good enough for you then stick with em. If not, upgrade your head unit.
June 14, 201312 yr Author I went out and tried to see how they would sound and didn't get any noise out of them. I don't know if I wasn't making connection or not. They might be junk. I never heard of this name of speakers, ( Klash Boss audio system). I'll try them in my Outback when I get a chance. Oh, by the way, now I see a made in China on them, probably swap meet crap.

BOSS audio stuff is like harbor freight tools. Might work but definately cheap cheap cheap quality.
June 14, 201312 yr In that case stick with the stocks. Especially on a stock system. No gain by using the other speakers.
June 14, 201312 yr Author Looks like I'm out $8, oh well. I currently have Sony 130 watt speakers in the back and the factory front speakers are actually better.
June 14, 201312 yr Search amazon for Polk Db651. Usually about $50 a pair but damn good speakers for the price. They will sound just fine with the stock head unit, and will sound even better if/when you finally do upgrade. Like the comparison to HF tools! They might work, but there's not telling how well or for how long!
