So I accidentally broke the turn signal stalk on my 81 DL hatch while offroading. So I went to pull and save and grabbed one from an 82.I get home and the connectors are the same but various wires are different colors and in different spots on the connector.

 

So what are the differences in wireing and functionality between an 81 and 82 turn signal stalk?

 

colors:Ry=red/yellow tracer.Rw=red/white tracer,Rb=red/black tracer,Rg=red/green,Gb=green/black,Gw=green/white,Gr=green/red,Gy=green/yellow,B=blacK, #=empty

 

the 81 connector looks like this:

| Ry Rw  | #   Rb Rg |

| Gb Gw | Gr Gb Gy |

 

The 82 connector looks like this:

| B    #    | Ry Rw Rb |

| Gb Gw | Gr Gb Gy |

 

The bottom row is the same between the two but the top row is way different both on the connector and where they are soldered to on the switch.

Fine. Are does anyone have any interior wiring diagrams?

I did a major troubleshooting of almost everything electrical on these early gen two harnesses and I remember theses being different, as well as the light switches. Unfortunately i have since forgotton everything I learned. Here are some snaps of wiring diagrams from the two years you mention, maybe they will help. You should be able to zoom and trace. It looks alright on my end. These are from Bentleys manual. I have combo switches from an 81 as well as an 83 in my shed, if they would be of help, let me know I will try to help you.

One thing I do remember is that my switches from  80 std and 80 DL did not have the feature where you pull the lever towards you to flash high beams.

Could you please post some pics of the connector on the wiring harness?The resolution isn't high enough to zoom in that far.

 

Although its looking like I need to move two wires to different pins.

 

the black wire on the 82 connector needs to move into the empty space and the red/yellow needs to move into the space that the black wire is.Thats what I am thinking right now.

 

Those wires arn't entiery correct.The turn signal works but I only have low beams,and they turn off when I try the high beams..
