July 8, 201312 yr I picked up a 97 Outback 2.5 DOHC and it has a couple of strange things, the water pump outlet is on the front instead of the bottom and there was a bracket for a turbo mount on the passenger rear head. Possible Turbo Block? Strange.
July 9, 201312 yr I have an 2001 EJ25 in my legacy and always wondered what would would happen if I would throw a turbo on it, but after talking to a couple of guys I found out that they used a different crank, cams, pistons and connecting rods in the turbo'd engines compared to the non turbo'd ones. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's just what I heard
July 10, 201312 yr Not sure on the bracket you're talking about but the water pump seems to be a dead giveaway that it is a JDM engine. When you replace it with a USDM pump, you will also need the center timing belt cover as they at different between the USDM and JDM engine. Edited July 10, 201312 yr by Caboobaroo
July 10, 201312 yr Author That would do it. It's going to be replaced by a 2.2. It may be a good core for someone, but there was lots of water in the oil.
