The inside of the drum on my Gl is stripped out no grooves left at all and bearings are bad.some how the brake backing plate got destroyed(bottom edge is flat like it was cut off). I'm thinking switching to rear discs are the way to go. What parts do I need to get and where is best place to get them. There is nothing in the junk yards

 By all means change to rear disk brakes. Check out parts wanted and parts for sale

.A member can sell you a complete package from a gl10 or an xt. I paid around $100. That is about average. Easy bolt on install.
