Question about turbo diff lock transmission

Featured Replies

If I have an 88 5spd turbo full time 4wd diff lock tranny, is it possible to swap the tail shaft section over onto a regular 5 spd dual range and then have a dual range with diff lock and full time 4wd? I know I have read stuff about this before, but I couldn't find the answer when I searched. And please forgive my ignorance! I haven't worked with the turbo transmissions at all! Thank you!

And as far as swapping, it isn't easily possible.  The pinion shaft in the difflock cars are alot longer.

Search around, there were Dual Range fultime/difflock trannies used in 87-89 RX's

Ok good to know. I have the opportunity to buy a car with this, and was hoping to combine my dual range, and gain the fulltime 4wd with diff lock. But I guess it's not possible. Thank you

Building this style of tranny with an RX Full Time as a basis is covered very well on AuSubaru Board with plenty of Pics as well.
