Original Manufacturer of 2001 Legacy Subaru OEM water pumps?

Featured Replies

My mechanic said to find a cheaper version of the Subaru OEM water pump, I should track down the original manufacturer and just buy their part (e.g., without the Subaru logo on it).  Does anybody know what company manufactured the original Subaru water pump for 2001 Subaru Legacy?

I read on the Subaru Forester forum that it was Paraut, but then of course, that was shot down by another forum user, so I don't know what to think!  Can anyone confirm 100%?

They've used several suppliers for OE pumps. Aisin is one that is easy to find.

If you have to replace the water pump, replace all the timing components along with it. Especially the idler with the teeth, and the tensioner assembly, since they fail the most, and with the most expensive consequences. (Broken or skipped timing belt = bent valves)

MizumoAuto on eBay supplies quality timing kits with Aisin water pumps for around $200-$250.

OK.  Got it.  I see one on Amazon for only $43 which is about $65 cheaper than any OEM Subaru logo-ed water pump I could find online.  If Aisin is one of their suppliers, it sounds like I should pull the trigger on this one!
