The radio in my Impreza seems to be having problems. While I am playing the radio there will be moments when there is an echo in the reception....it suddenly sounds like I am listening to it in a big hollow box.  Is this a common problem....or do I have a defective unit?

I assume that the problem is happening to more than just one station and if so the only thing that could cause that to happen, though I can't explain how it is, is inside the radio and you should have a warranty covered issue.

Like cougar said, take it to the dealer and have them diagnose it. The car is still under warranty, isn't it?

 

If not you may have an antenna grounding problem, or poor antenna connection to the stereo, or damaged antenna wire between the antenna and radio.

If you have an HD radio and you listen to AM stations it is normal. The radio switches back and forth from HD to standard AM depending on the signal strength.

 

Can you tell us which radio you have?
