HASx11 Posted January 21, 2014 Share Posted January 21, 2014 Hello everyone! I just some questions regarding my friends 1997 impreza. It has 200000 miles on the car but the engine has only 100000 miles. The car makes a loud whining coming from the front of the car while driving it also makes a chugging noise. The car almost sounds like a train. I was wondering if this could the front differential. I ask cause the warranty ends in two weeks and I wanted to make sure the problem was identified before then. Fairtax4me Posted January 21, 2014 Share Posted January 21, 2014 ATF dipstick is on the left. Differential dipstick is on the right side. Manual trans gear oil is on the right side. Not hard to find. Look straight down on the side of the trans right behind the bell-housing. If you have the big air box on the throttle body it's below that. It's been making the noise for a couple months so the damage might have been done and unfortunately the dealership claims there is nothing wrong.
